Description

The Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas is a Paso Robles take on a classic Rhône blend: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Counoise, and Terret Noir. The wine incorporates fruit from several of the top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many red wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the dark fruit, mineral and spice of Syrah. To that Syrah, we incorporate the brightness and fresh acidity of Grenache, the structure and meatiness of Mourvèdre, and small additions of Counoise for complexity and Terret Noir for spice.

Tasting Notes

A nose of licorice and crushed rock, blackberry, soy, and sweet tobacco. On the palate, black raspberry and mineral flavors with a Syrah-driven pancetta-like meaty note. The finish is deep and long, with bright acids, chalky tannins, and a chaparral-like wild herb note that reverts finally back to the licorice note the wine started with. Complex and lingering. Drink now and over the next decade.
